Hogwarts Robe
-
Create your own robes just like the students of Hogwarts. The students in the books and movies wear a black wizard or witch robe on campus. The robes are ankle-length and have a cowl-shaped hood. The lining of the robes match the student’s house colors. The Gryffindor robes have a maroon or dark red lining. The Slytherin robes are lined in green. The students of Hufflepuff have yellow lined robes while the Ravenclaw kids have blue lining. Select which house you would like to belong to and purchase the corresponding colored fabric. Purchase or download a simple wizard robe pattern to use for your robe. After you have created the robe, decorate it with a house crest. Make one out of felt pieces using the crest in the book as an example. Don’t forget to make a secret pocket for your wand.
Scarf
-
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry gets quite chilly in the winter. Snow is often found on the grounds of the school. Each student is given a scarf to wear. The striped scarves alternate the two colors of each house. The Gryffindor scarf is maroon and gold, the Slytherin is green and silver or grey and the Hufflepuff scarf is yellow and black. The Ravenclaw scarf is blue and grey in the movies while the books have it in blue and bronze. Select the house colors you’d like to use in your scarf. Purchase a 1/2-yard of 60-inch-wide fleece in each color. Measure and mark the fabric in 4-inch increments. Cut the pieces so you have pieces that are 4 inches by 18 inches. Pin the pieces together alternating colors until your piece is 60 inches long. Sew the pieces together. You should have a striped piece of fabric that is 18 inches wide by 60 inches long. Fold the piece in half so the right sides are together. Sew the edges together to make a long tube. Flip the tube inside out and top stitch the two long edges. Cut the ends into a 2-inch fringe.

Monster Book of Monsters
-
Harry, Ron and Hermione have to purchase a book for a class called “Monster Book of Monsters.” The book is furry and is quite mean. It has to be latched with a strap so it does not terrorize the reader. The book is a monster. Sew a book jacket to fit over a book to recreate the Monster book. Purchase grey fur for the book cover, foam letters and gold paint for the title, and felt for his face and strap. Lay the fur fabric, furry side down on the work surface. Place your book on top of the fur. Open the book and center in the middle of the fur fabric. Fold and pin the fabric so it creates pockets to slip over the book’s front and back bound covers. Remove the book and sew the pockets with your sewing machine. Decorate the front of the book with felt. Create a scary pair of eyes, nose and mouth with sharp teeth. Glue the felt to the fur with a hot glue gun. Glue a strap made of brown felt on the back side of the book for the latch. Paint the foam letters gold with acrylic paint and a foam brush. After they are dry, glue them to the cover so it spells “The Monster Book of Monsters.”
Character Pillows
-
Create your own Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger on a decorative throw pillow. These loveable characters can be brought to life with felt and some muslin. Purchase an 18-inch pillow form at a craft store. Create a slipcover for the form by sewing two 18 1/2-inch muslin squares together. Pin the squares together with right sides together. Sew the squares on three sides using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Flip right side out and press flat. Use colored pieces of felt to create the head and shoulders of a character. For Harry, use a piece of brown felt cut to look like hair, peach felt to look like skin and black felt for his glasses. Use your creativity to make a square Harry. Create a black robe with a Gryffindor scarf. When done, insert the pillow form, turn the edges under and hand stitch shut.
