Decoupage School Auction Art Project Ideas
A school auction can be an excellent means of generating a bit of extra cash, especially if there are interesting and unique items to sell. Decoupage is one way to take normal household or school items and turn them into simple but attractive works of art that a potential buyer might not expect to see anywhere else. If you need a few items for your next school auction and are not sure where to begin looking, decoupage gives you flexible ideas for making almost any item auction-ready.

Household Decorations
-
Every home is decorated differently, but there are a few decorative items you can expect to see in almost everyone’s house. Tissue box holders, vases, collectable plates, posters and coasters are all excellent items to decoupage, since they are relatively small and simple to transform. Look around your house for items you think other people would have and try decoupaging them to see how they sell at auction.
Boxes and Storage
-
If there is one thing people need more of, it is a place to keep other things. Most families have a box of photographs or other keepsakes somewhere in the house. Take advantage of the availability of storage items by creating custom decoupage boxes. Decoupage storage units add personality to otherwise bland storage devices. Make small boxes for holding jewelry or photographs, or try making a large box or trunk for stashing blankets and other big items.

Mannequins
-
Decoupaging regular household items is one way to generate a few sales, but you may be able to spark a bidding war if you create something truly unusual. Pick up a mannequin and decoupage it with either school colors or a collection of old comic books. Once it is complete, the mannequin will draw plenty of attention during the auction and likely be the most interesting piece for sale. You can even ask students to help by bringing in copies of their favorite comic books or short stories, as long as they are willing to donate them to the project. Students can also decoupage their own art onto the piece for a personal touch.
Tables
-
Decoupage projects often work best as accent pieces. End tables, small coffee tables, nightstands and other small objects are suitable projects for decoupage because of their size and the fact that a potential buyer may find it easier to place a small piece of furniture in the home than a massive centerpiece. Try decorating small accent tables and listing them individually and as sets in the school auction to see which type of furniture arrangement sells best, then use that data to have an even more successful auction the next time around.
