Haunted Wedding Ideas

If your idea of the perfect romantic nuptials is a bit unorthodox, you may want to consider a Halloween theme and hold a "haunted" wedding ceremony. Reflect the spooky theme in the entire ceremony, from your attire, the flowers, music, church venue and invitations to the reception venue, centerpieces, wedding cake and favors. You can even decorate with Halloween candles and jack-o'-lanterns.

  1. Bride and Groom

    • For haunted weddings, a bride can wear a slim-fitting plain red or black dress. Antique embellishments work well for this theme. Pair a vintage brooch and necklace with your dress for a chic look. Select a black birdcage wedding veil, and wear a pair of long, elbow-length black gloves. The groom should wear a black tuxedo with a matching shirt and tie. Alternatively, he can wear a black cape with a red lining and a high collar.

    Bridesmaids and Groomsmen

    • The bridesmaids can wear black gowns made of crepe, velvet or chiffon, adorned with black chokers at the neck. A black lace shawl makes the ideal wrap. Alternatively, the bridesmaids can wear yellow, red, or orange slim-fitting dresses with matching capes. The groomsmen can don black tuxedo jackets with long tails and matching cummerbunds and shirts.

    Reception

    • A historic mansion is the ideal venue for a haunted wedding theme. Decorate the tables with black linen and orange napkins, and place cornstalks, large pumpkins, orange and black lights or candles and jack-o'-lanterns around the reception area. Put pumpkin seeds in candy dishes and use them as centerpieces for the tables. To create a smoky atmosphere in the reception hall, use dry ice behind the tables. Make ghost-shaped placards and place them on guests’ tables.

    Menu

    • At the reception, serve rum apple cider in black mugs with whipped cream topping. Or, serve green apple martinis in black glasses. Order a pumpkin wedding cake with orange, black and white frosting for your haunted theme. Keep the menu pumpkin-inspired. You can have pumpkin tarts as appetizers and pumpkin butter on the dinner rolls.

    Music

    • "Haunted" music to play during the wedding ceremony and reception includes soundtracks from "Ghostbusters" or "The Nightmare Before Christmas," or play "Thriller" and "Monster Mash." Ask an organist to play music at your wedding and include music from Bach or the track played at Disney's Haunted Mansion.
