Wedding Reception Games and Contests
A wedding reception is a special party held to celebrate the new couple after the ceremony. Wedding reception games and contests have been a fun and common tradition for many years. They make ideal icebreakers and are an enjoyable way to encourage the families of the couples to meet and mingle.

Karaoke
-
Karaoke contests are ideal for breaking the ice at a wedding reception. In advance, place a songbook and small pieces of paper at each table. Encourage each table to request a song to sing together from the songbook. Have the disc jockey play the song while each table sings along. Let the crowd judge the best singing table.
Pass the Dollar
-
Give a dollar bill to each table. Instruct the guests to pass around the dollar bill until the music stops playing. Each guest left holding the dollar bills after the music stops is out. The last guest remaining is the winner and receives the table’s centerpiece as a prize.

Bride and Groom Trivia
-
Divide the participating guests into two groups. Have one guest conduct the game. The DJ asks a question about the bride, groom or the couple. Each group gives an answer and the DJ checks the answer with the new couple. The first group that gets a certain amount of answers correct, such as seven, receives a small prize.
Bouquet Contest
-
This game is a twist on the classic bouquet toss. Set up a table with a jar of stones, marbles or small candy, pieces of paper, pens and a small bowl. Instruct the female participating guests to write their name along with their guess of the number of objects in the jar. The guests that guesses the closest answer wins the game and receives the bride’s bouquet.
Garter Belt Contest
-
This game is a twist on the classic garter belt throw. Arrange the participating male guests in a circle and have the guest pass a hat around the circle while music plays. Each time the music stops, the male guest left holding the hat leaves the game. The last male guest standing wins the garter belt.
Criteria Raffle
-
Make up a list of criteria, such as “wearing a purple dress” or name begins with ‘J’ and contains five letters.” Have the DJ call out the list of criteria and the guests that fit the criteria come to the front and receive a small prize.
