A Robin Hood themed wedding can have a romantic ambiance.

Show your love for Robin Hood by having a themed wedding. Themed weddings are a memorable experience for the wedding guests, as well as the bride and groom. Details from the Robin Hood story can be worked into a wedding through style of attire, food choices, invitations and ceremony location. Walk down the aisle towards Robin and his cast of merry men and let the fun begin.

  1. Location

    • For a Robin Hood feel, have the ceremony outside in a forest setting. Many scenes of the Robin Hood story are in Sherwood Forest and the surrounding land. Guests can sit on benches or pews made from pine for a rustic feel. The altar can be created from an arch of tree branches adorned with flowers. If you cannot find a location in a real forest, create one inside a tent or marquis by bringing in trees and other vegetation to simulate a woodsy scene.

    Attire

    • The medieval clothing of the Robin Hood time period can be incorporated into the bridal gown and the bridesmaids' dresses. Select dresses with details such as laced bodices and bell sleeves. The bride can wear her hair down or half up with a circlet of flowers upon her head to imitate Maid Marion. The men in the wedding party can wear capes or tunics over their clothing. The groom may choose to wear a laced-up shirt with a ruffled collar and sleeves for a romantic feel. The person officiating the wedding can portray Friar Tuck by wearing a friar’s robe.

    Music

    • Use music from a production of Robin Hood. The bride will need to choose whether she prefers a contemporary feel to the music or a classical theme. Modern choices for Robin Hood music would be songs from the cinematic representations of the story. “Everything I Do, I Do It For You” by Bryan Adams from “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” is often chosen for a bridal procession. A classical choice of music would be a string quartet playing songs from the operetta, “The Merrie Men of Sherwood Forest” by W.H. Birch.

    Invites

    • Match wedding invitations to the wedding theme by printing them on parchment paper. Roll the invites into a scroll and tie with a piece of grapevine. Embellish with a miniature pinecone to give it a Sherwood Forrest feel and mail it in a tube. Use medieval language in the wording of the invites. Refer to the bride as a maid and cite the groom’s town, such as “Maid Linda” and “John of Rollington." Burn the edges of the invitations with a wood burner for a rustic touch. If you use a traditional envelope, close it with a decorative wax seal.
