The polka-dotted insect is the subject of this fun springtime craft.

Whether you're finishing off your Halloween costume or looking to add a little DIY spring style to your step, a ladybug-inspired headband is a good way to go. After you pick up a few supplies from your local craft store, you can create a variety of fashion-forward hair accessories.

  1. Polka-Dotted Perfection

    • One easy ladybug look is inspired by the polka-dotted pattern on the insect's wings. Start out with a red headband, some black fabric paint and a small paintbrush. You'll want to practice painting small circular dots on a piece of napkin to test out the look. Then, take the paintbrush and make little circles of fabric paint on the headband. Voila -- you've achieved a pretty polka-dotted look.

    Add Some Antennae

    • If you're working on a ladybug headband to finish off your ladybug Halloween costume, you'll want to create antennae just like the insect's. With the help of two thin, black pipe cleaners and a basic black headband, you'll be ready to get to work. Twist one end of each pipe cleaner around the headband, securing it in place by bending it. You might need to secure the pipe cleaners with a glue gun. Then, use the glue gun to attack a small black pom-pom to the top of both pipe cleaners.

    Bugging Out

    • Another cute idea is to glue ladybug decorations to a plain black headband; this will achieve a fun three-dimensional look kids will adore. You can find little plastic ladybugs at craft stores and party stores. Use a hot glue gun to affix each plastic figurine to the top of your headband; you want the figurines to lay as flat as possible, to avoid them breaking off.

    Fun With Ribbon

    • Begin with a plain black headband. Find a red fabric ribbon that is slightly narrower than the width of the headband; cut the ribbon so it is the same length as your headband. Use a hot glue gun to affix the ribbon to the headband. Then, use black fabric paint to paint ladybug spots on the ribbon.
