Tagging Overview
-
While tagging can refer to people or other items on social networks, on YouTube it specifically refers to adding relevant keywords to videos. This makes it easier for people to find your video because it appears in search results with your tags. You cannot tag another user on YouTube, but you can create a video response. The user to whom you respond must approve your video response.
Adding Tags to Your Videos
-
To add tags to your video, log into YouTube and go to your "Videos" page. Click “Edit Info” next to the video to which you want to add tags. Type your tags into the "Tags" field, separated by a space. For multiple words or phrases, use quotation marks. Think about what keywords you would search for if you wanted to find your video and choose your tags accordingly.

Browsing Tags
-
You have two options for browsing tags on YouTube. You can search for one or multiple tags through the search bar at the top of the page. You can also click any tag under a video to see a list of videos with related tags. If you want to narrow your search, click the “Search Option” link at the top of your results or related tag page. Search options include videos, channels, playlists, categories and video length.
Formatting Tags for Advanced Users
-
If you’re a more experienced YouTube user, you can use tags to format the appearance of your video. You enter these tags in the same location and manner as keywords, but they do not appear under your video. For example, the tag “yt:crop=16:9” zooms in on the 16:9 area of your video and eliminates the exterior borders. Google provides a list of these tags on the "Help" section of the YouTube website.
