Ideas for Butterflies at a Wedding
Imagine dancing with your new husband in a field filled with butterflies. You can re-create this romantic atmosphere by including butterflies in your wedding. If you are getting married in the spring, butterflies can add a touch of fun and elegance to your wedding reception. If you let yourself be creative, you’ll find that there are countless ways to incorporate butterflies into your wedding.

Butterflies in the Flowers
-
Ask your florist to include butterflies in your flower arrangements. Work them into centerpiece bouquets or even your bridal and bridesmaids’ bouquets. It will appear as if butterflies landed naturally on your flowers. You can also use butterfly ribbon to tie your bouquets together, or place them on or below flower vases on your tables. Look for fake (but hopefully realistic) butterflies at party stores, décor shops or online and give them to your florist to include in your flower arrangements. Use colors such as blue or lavender to create a romantic mood, or vivid pinks, oranges and yellows to add a sense of fun to a summer wedding. Instead of petals, ask your flower girl to toss butterflies as you walk down the aisle.
Butterflies in Your Attire
-
If butterflies are a theme at your wedding, why not wear them? Accessorize your wedding gown with a butterfly hair piece or butterfly jewelry. You can ask your bridesmaids to do the same. Have the groom and his groomsmen contribute to the butterfly theme by including a butterfly in their boutonnieres. Help your flower girl feel special by asking her to wear a dress with a butterfly sash or a crown of butterflies.

Butterfly Decor
-
Include butterflies in the décor at your reception. Place them on the tables as part of the centerpieces. Use butterfly place card holders to let guests know where they will be sitting, or simply place a butterfly on each plate (these can double as your favors). Make chandeliers or mobiles out of butterfly garlands to hang on the ceiling. Ask your cake decorator to include butterflies in your cake design, either with edible frosting or sugar, or by placing butterfly decorations on the cake. Use butterfly candles or candle holders on your tables. Be creative and include butterflies wherever you think it necessary to create the desired atmosphere at your wedding.
Go Live
-
If your ceremony or reception is being held in a garden, ask for permission to release live butterflies for your event. Purchase the butterflies and ask your wedding planner (or a friend) to release them just before your wedding. You and your guests will enjoy sharing your party with hundreds of live butterflies flittering around. This will work best if your event is being held in an enclosed garden space, or all of your butterflies might simply fly away.
