Gag Gifts for Men Turning 60

For some men, the thought of turning 60 is a somber event — more appropriate to start pricing pine boxes than celebrate. But, it doesn't have to be that way. Friends and family of the soon-to-be golden senior can help him overcome his serious take on the special occasion. One way they can do this is with hilarious homemade gag gifts that will put a smile on his craggy face.

Gag Photo Card

A gift that is sure to please is a gag photo card. Place an altered photo of the recipient inside the card. Use photo enhancement software to make him look even older than 60 by giving him white hair, a long white beard, gigantic glasses and countless wrinkles. Put the picture on the side of the card in a border that looks like a mirror frame. Print on the outside of the card: “Have a look in the mirror, Grandpa. It's even worse than you think.”

Old People Stuff

Give the new 60-year-old things associated with getting older. If the birthday boy has a party, have each guest hold back their actual gifts and instead hand over a collection of wrapped items that include denture powder, a walking cane, hearing aid, adult diapers and a shawl. After the joke is over, give him the real gifts.

This Was Your Life and It's Over Album

Create an album either — in a photo editing application or by paying a professional — that shows a fake version of the recipient's life. Show "pictures" of him at times and places he is too old to have actually been. For example, have a picture of him as a young man standing next to Abraham Lincoln or talking to Moses as he parts the Red Sea. Insert slightly older pictures of him into later events, such as the first flight of the Wright brothers at Kitty Hawk.

Create and print out a poster of some the things that are older than the birthday boy. Include things like the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Colosseum in Rome and the Egyptian Pyramids. Include geological features, such as the Smoky Mountains or a big rock. Add captions under each item, naming it and giving its age.
