Top Ten Websites to Watch TV Online

Watching TV as a family is being replaced by computer viewing.

According to the Washington Post, Nielsen has reported that the next generation is growing increasingly comfortable with watching TV online. The rise in interest has increased the number of sites getting involved. However, good sites with video content that the average user would want to see may not be so easy to find.

  1. Joost

    • Joost offers free content, for now, combined with a cleanly designed, understandable website. The amount of content available on the site is less than what some offer, but jumps ahead of Hulu because it offers free content without a delay.

    Hulu

    • A popular website partially owned by the major TV networks, Hulu offers a broad range of content. However, the site requires a subscription fee to watch the most popular shows immediately on their release. They typically become available free after a week. If you are looking for well-known shows and are willing to wait or pay, then Hulu is the best place to go.

    YouTube

    • The popular video-sharing site also offers clips and full episodes of popular TV shows -- until the show owners find out about them. To avoid further lawsuits for publishing copyrighted material, the site is cracking down on the issue. However, there is some delay which may be enough for you to catch your favorite show. YouTube remains an excellent source for watching clips from vintage TV shows, especially musical acts from variety shows from decades past and around the world.

    Blip.tv

    • Blip.tv is traveling a different path than the other major websites. It publishes its own Web series rather than rebroadcasting standard TV shows. It's not television, strictly speaking, but it is television-style video programming. Although you may not be able to watch what you know, you may just find something new that you like.

    TVU Networks

    • "TV without limits" is the slogan for TVU Networks. The site hosts numerous channels through a live stream. Rather than watching content that has already been broadcast, you can watch TV as it is being broadcast. Networks span around the globe, offering a look into TV culture in other countries.

    Veoh

    • Veoh primarily offers clips rather than full episodes of TV. Most of the full episodes that are available are dated. However, if you like classic TV and movies then Veoh is the channel for you. Their Web interface is easy to use and searching for content is simple.

    WwiTV

    • Get linked to local channels around the world. The amount of content is limited to the number of television channels that offer live streams, but other sites with online video content are linked as well. Streams can be search based upon category or location.

    Babelgum

    • A site that offers some original content along with shows on BBC, The Onion and much more, Babelgum sorts the videos based upon category. It focuses on film, music, comedy and animation. Users can create playlists to continually stream content.

    Beeline TV

    • Beeline TV is a listing of links to live, streaming media from around the world. The video interface is handled on the source site, and the Beeline TV site itself is not as sophisticated as some others. However, the extensive listing of TV does provides valuable information on the homepage.

    LiveStation

    • LiveStation provides an easy to use interface with live streaming video from various sources. However, the number of channels available on the website is extremely limited. If the site were to expand the selection available, it would provide a better value to visitors.
