Glitter Snowflakes Craft
New fallen snow sparkles when the sunlight glints off of it. Individual snowflakes have a fragile, lace-like appearance. For children and adults, creating snowflakes reveals the wonders of nature and helps both better understand the intricate processes of creation. A glitter snowflake craft uses the complex design to make interesting snowflake projects.

Paper
-
For young children, download or draw a picture filled with large snowflakes. Let the children color the picture with crayons before using glitter pens over the top or gluing on glitter. Cut in half an 8 ½ by 11-inch sheet of card stock, creating two 8 ½ by 5 ½ strips. Fold in half to make greeting cards. From tissue paper, white napkins or regular copy paper, cut out a snowflake pattern. Make the snowflake with a 3-inch diameter. Glue the snowflake to the front of the greeting card. Smooth on a thin layer of glue and sprinkle on glitter. Let dry. Angle the card so unglued glitter slides off. Add a heading on the cover and text inside to finish off the glitter snowflake greeting card craft.
Paper Plate
-
Paper plates are sturdy enough to use for any number of craft projects. The round design works well when creating glitter snowflakes. Use a snowflake template or freehand draw a snowflake on the upper side of a paper plate. Carefully cut out the snowflake design. Lay on newspaper or layers of paper towels and spray paint blue, silver or whatever works with the purpose for which you’re creating the snowflake. Before the paint dries, sprinkle on glitter. Let dry. To hang up, punch a hole in one snowflake point and add a silver yarn or cord tie. Children can create a personal glitter snowflake paper plate craft. Let them cut out small snowflakes from construction paper and decorate with glitter pens. These they glue around the edges of the paper plate. Cut a 3-to-4-inch hole in the center of the plate. Around this hole, use glitter pens to create an inch-deep frame. Children glue a personal picture on the back of the paper plate so the picture can be viewed from the front. Around the frame, children write their names and include the date. Add a yarn tie for hanging.

Dough
-
Children can feel like they’re baking when they use dough to make glitter snowflakes. Mix up a batch of 1 cup white flour to ½ cup salt and ½ cup water. Knead until the flour has the consistency of bread dough. Roll out on a floured surface. Let the children use a snowflake cookie cutter to make the snowflake shape. Poke a hole in one point of each snowflake. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for two hours at 250 degrees until thoroughly dry. After the snowflakes cool, decorate with paint and glitter. Thread silver cord through the holes to hang up as ornaments. The snowflakes can be tucked into greenery around a pillar candle for a centerpiece.
Lace
-
Make glitter snowflakes out of lace. Use a snowflake template and lightly draw the design onto a square of lace. Cut out the pattern twice from the lace. Also cut the pattern out of white card stock. Glue the lace and cardstock snowflakes together with the cardstock sandwiched between the lace cutouts to add body. One side at a time, glue on glitter. Add a tie to hang on the wall or tree. Add the cutout to notebooks, scrapbooks or cards.
