Planning and organization will help you have everything ready for your wedding day.

Every bride wants her wedding day to be perfect, right down to the last detail. Part of ensuring that things go smoothly is to stay organized and plan, plan, plan. You can find lists of what you should do and when you should do it in bridal magazines and books. However, the things you need to buy for the wedding can vary greatly, depending on if your wedding and reception are thrown at a hotel, catered in a hall or held in a reception area at a house of worship. While a wedding at a hotel will cost more, many of the little details will be taken care of for you.

  1. Before the Wedding Day

    • In order to make sure everyone arrives for your big day, you will need invitations with RSVP cards and possibly thank you notes to match. Of course, the obvious purchases include your dress, the tux for your husband-to-be and all clothing for your attendants. Remember your veil and wedding jewelry for you and your attendants, along with shoes and accessories. If you enjoy tradition, gather up your items for "something borrowed, something blue, something old, something new." Tradition dictates that the bride and groom pass out thank you gifts to the wedding party prior to the ceremony. Get your marriage certificate, depending on the locale where you marry.

Before the Ceremony - Day of the Wedding

    • No matter where your wedding is held, you will need to take care of certain details. For many brides, flowers set the tone for the wedding and add beauty to the day. Remember to include corsages for all of the wedding party; your florist will help you with a list of who needs what type of corsage. Many brides also include a basket on the table for cards. You will definitely need a guest book and a table on which to place gifts as guests arrive. Remember decorations for the table and basket as well.

    The Ceremony

    • Check with the venue to see if they provide an aisle runner. You will need wedding rings for both you and your husband. Your ring bearer will need a pillow on which to carry the ring. Consider what decorations, including flowers and candles, that you'll want for the ceremony site.

    Reception

    • No matter the venue, you will need to make some type of food selection, including cake. The hotel will offer you several options for a main course and cake, as will a caterer. Some places might require that you provide your own food, plates and silverware, along with napkins and centerpieces. Check with the venue or caterer to be sure. You might want a keepsake cake topper unless you opt for flowers or disposable decorations. Make sure to purchase a special knife for the cake-cutting ceremony, along with flutes to toast each other. You will also need to provide favors for the guests. In addition, you might want disposable cameras or matches. Remember the garter for the groom to throw.
