Kids add a festive feeling to a wedding.

If children are on the guest list for your wedding, it is essential to plan a few things for them to do. Otherwise, they are likely to run wild. Work with your wedding planner to incorporate a few kid-specific activities to keep all the children attending your blessed event entertained. Not only will parents thank you, but you will have to deal with fewer distractions on your special day.

  1. Tabletop Entertainment

    • Coloring books, crayons, puzzle, games and stickers can keep kids entertained for as long as they need to sit at the table with Mom and Dad. Wedding hosts can present kids with special party bags that include these items. Another tabletop entertainment idea is to cover tables where kids are seated with butcher paper. Let kids use their crayons to cover the whole table with doodles and words.

    Professional Entertainment

    • Parents will breathe a sigh of relief when they show up for your wedding and spot a professional balloon animal maker, face painter or storyteller on the scene to keep their kids entertained. A separate entertainment room can be designated for kids only, or you can have entertainers perform in an outdoor area that is slightly apart from where the adults are enjoying speeches and fellowship with old friends.

    Play Time

    • Set up a jungle gym and a sandbox on the perimeter of the outdoor reception area. Make sure there is a soft surface below any equipment you erect so children are safe from accidental injury. Also set out a few items for older kids, such as Nerf footballs, Hula Hoops and sidewalk chalk. Kids will keep themselves occupied for hours with these simple play items.

    Dance Floor

    • Set up a large dance floor in the center of your reception hall for adults and children to dance the night away. Have the DJ play music throughout most of the reception so kids can jump up and get their energy out over the course of the event. Consider having the DJ call out a special "kids only" dance or two so kids can strut their stuff on the dance floor without bumping into adults.
