Decorating for a Country Wedding Ceremony
If you’re having a country wedding, you might be hosting your big day outdoors, in a barn or in a rustic venue surrounded by nature. A country wedding should be relaxed and simple, without elaborate decorations. Make your country wedding beautiful by creating accents to complement the beautiful natural surroundings that are already there.
-
Ceremony Accents
-
Place wedding programs in a basket perched on top of a bale of hay. If your ceremony will be held inside, place Mason jars, with a ribbon tied around the outside and a candle inside, on the window sills. For outside ceremonies, hang the Mason jar from a tree. Avoid common wedding decorations such as balloons and streamers, because these will detract from the country look.
Flowers
-
Choose wildflowers that have a natural country look. These include sunflowers, daisies, tulips and other flowers in neutral, earthy tones. You could get these from a farmers market on your wedding day. As an added touch, place the flowers in country-style accessories such as watering cans, cowboy boots and baskets instead of using a vase.

Reception Table Decorations
-
Cover your guest tables with a checkered tablecloth. Reuse the Mason jars with the candle inside on the tables as centerpieces. Place favors of small jars of jam or hard candy sticks bound with raffia ties at each guest’s place setting.
Food Table Decorations
-
Put cold drinks in a washtub filled with ice. If you’re having a buffet dinner, make a table by putting plywood on top of two bales of hay. Add decorative accents such as gourds and ears of dried corn to the tables.
Decor Accents
-
Make empty spaces in your ceremony and reception locations festive by setting out bales of hay and dried cornstalks. If you’re allowed to put decorations on the walls, hang grapevine wreaths or horseshoes.
