TrimFree is a brand of products manufactured by the Emsco Group of Girard, Pennsylvania. Manufactured of weather-resistant resin, TrimFree products imitate natural stone, slate and smooth terra cotta. The edgers and borders eliminate the need for mechanical edging or weedeaters next to the garden border. TrimFree products are lightweight and easy to install in a variety of configurations. Long spikes hold the pieces securely in place, but they may be lifted and moved relatively easily. The product is widely available at department and home improvement stores or via mail order. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. TrimFree Edging

    • Each piece of TrimFree edging is seamlessly constructed so there is no gap between the upright edging and the front-facing, flat “flange” that protrudes several inches from the base of the scalloped upright section. The flange serves as a barrier to grass and lies flat on the ground. To mow the grass around the edging, simply let the lawn mower wheels travel along the flange. Each section of TrimFree edging is flexible at the joints, allowing it to be configured with angles and curves. Each unit includes five extra-long spikes colored to blend in with the edging piece. Simply hammer the spikes into the ground to fasten the edging in place. TrimFree edging is 3.6 inches tall installed.

    TrimFree Borders

    • TrimFree borders may be used as edgers around the lawn or garden bed, to pave a patio or serve as stepping stones. The product features a toothed underside to help it hug the ground to eliminate damage to lawn mower blades. Use a rubber mallet to tap the teeth into the soil. The square tiles look like rough-hewn, natural stone or slate tiles on top. A pattern printed on the underside guides the homeowner in cutting pieces to fit areas that do not require a full tile. Each piece is 24 inches long and 8 inches wide.

    Bedrocks TrimFree Edging System

    • Like TrimFree Edging, Bedrocks TrimFree border system pieces include an attached flange. Bedrock looks like stacked slate tiles, and the flange looks like a single slate tile. The flange has long spikes that allow the homeowner to hammer the unit into the ground for stability. Because the stacked portion and the flange are one piece, no grass can grow between the flat tile and the 4.5-inch “wall” of slate-look tiles. Each unit can be curved or bent to right angles at the joints.

    Colors

    • TrimFree lawn edging is available in hunter green or terra cotta. Each package of TrimFree edging holds six pieces that make 10 feet of edging. TrimFree lawn borders come in desert sand or natural slate, packed 30 tiles to a box. Bedrocks TrimFree decorative lawn borders come in natural slate only and come in six-piece packs.
