Slumber parties are good for kids' social skills.

Socializing is important for young kids to help ensure they grow up to be well-rounded individuals. One way to achieve this is to let them take part in slumber parties where they can spend time with a group of friends their own age and have fun. For a parent hosting the slumber party, organizing a few fun party games will keep the kids occupied and make sure all the children are involved. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Musical Statues

    • Musical statues is a classic party game where the kids all get up and dance to some popular music. The adult stands by the CD player and from time to time pauses the music. When the music stops, the kids have to stop dancing and stand as still as statue. Anyone moving or giggling after the music ends is out and then the music restarts. The last kid left in the game is the winner.

    Stuffy Game

    • The stuffy game involves each child bringing along one of her stuffed toys. The toys are placed in a pile in the middle of the room and each kid takes a turn to be blindfolded. While wearing the blindfold, the kids have to search through the toy pile and find their stuffed toy by touch alone. If the child finds her own toy, she is the winner.

    Cross the Sea

    • Cross the sea is a game best played in a soft carpeted room because there will be a few falls. One child sits on a chair at one end of the room, while one is blindfolded at the other side of the room. The rest of the kids sit or stand between the other two kids to form rocks. The child on the chair is either an island or, for educational purposes, the New World. The blindfolded child is a ship, for example the Mayflower, who must get to the island. It is the island's job to shout directions to the ship so they can make their way through the rocks safely. Each child gets to be the island and the ship as well as being a rock.

    The Penguin Shuffle

    • The penguin shuffle is a fun race for younger kids that requires a decent-sized room. Have the kids stand with feet together and place a bean bag on top of their feet. The aim is for the kids to get from one side of the room to the other without dropping the bean bag. To do this they will have to shuffle like penguins. The one who makes it across first is the winner. If there are a lot of kids at the party, separate them out into smaller races and make it a little tournament.
