Shawani
-
The Sherwani is the traditional attire for an Indian wedding. The Sherwani is a knee-length formal coat without a collar and fitted at the waist. Traditionally off-white, Sherwanis today come in many colors. Sherwanis may be plain or decorated with jewels and/or embroidery. Grooms can customize their Sherwani to reflect their personalities and to match the fashions worn by film stars in a Bollywood extravaganza.
Trousers
-
Sherwanis are traditionally paired with churidar pyjamas. Churidar simply means bangle-like wrinkles or gathers, meaning the pants are gathered around the ankles and waist. Pyjama pants can be made from various materials and come in a variety of cuts, shapes and colors. Usually, the color of the pants matches that of the Sherwani.

Sehra
-
The Sehra is the headpiece worn by grooms at Indian weddings. Traditionally, the Sehra at North Indian weddings consists of the pagri, or turban; at South Indian weddings, the pagri is usually paired with a veil of flowers over the groom's face. The pagri is made of Bandhni, or tie-dyed, fabric or silk and the front is decorated with gems, beads and Zari work. Zari is the metal-wrapped yarn used in Indian embroidery.
Accessories and Footwear
-
The groom wears a shawl or stole over the shoulders. The shawl may be a matching or complementary color to the Shewarni. The groom may choose to accessorize his outfit with diamond cufflinks and/or brooches as seen in a Bollywood film. For footwear, the groom wear jutis, which are embroidered, slip-on shoes with up-turned toes.
Alternatives
-
Grooms who don't want to wear fully traditional attire, can opt for the Jodhpuri, or wedding suit. The Jodhpuri is similar in style to the western suit except the jacket has no collar. The front of the jacket is typically embroidered around the neck and down the front where the jacket opens.
