Futuristic Party Theme Ideas

Futuristic themed parties are well suited for adults and children.

Forward thinking hosts can create a futuristic party theme idea for their next event. A futuristic party celebrates birthdays, graduations or for no special reason. Ideas include a steampunk theme, a science fiction book theme or a television and movie theme.

Steampunk

Mix together the design sensibilities of the Victorian age and futurism for a steampunk themed party. Ask guests to dress steampunk, which mixes late-1800s costumes with high technology. Women would wear bustles and high leather boots, while men wear goggles and three-piece Edwardian suits. Decorate the party room with antique inventions, such as brass gadgets and posters of steam engines. Offer food on fine bone china and champagne in crystal glasses.

Sci-Fi

Choose your favorite science fiction novel to base your party around. Examples include Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" from 1931, Frank Herbert's 1965 novel "Dune" or "Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson from 1992. Feature artwork from the book on the invitation and dress as your favorite characters. If you use "Brave New World" as the theme, use test tubes to decorate the party room. Feature spice with the party buffet for a "Dune" party or serve pizza on skateboards from the "CosaNostrastet Pizza Incorporated" in a futuristic California from the cyberpunk book "Snow Crash."

Kids

Create a robot pinata for the party.

A kids' futuristic party theme would be based around robots and space rockets. Ask guests to dress up like astronauts or robots to the party. Invitations would use stars and planets for the design. Serve sandwiches and pizza shaped into rockets and feature upright hot dogs with buns cut in half to look like rockets. A craft idea for the party would be constructing robots from recycled materials. Bake a cake cut into the moon or make cupcakes with plastic rocket toppers.

TV and Movie

Look to television and movies for a futuristic party theme. Shows and movies, such as "Star Trek," would be well suited as a party theme. Ask guests to wear costumes from their favorite character and decorate with items from favorite episodes, such as "The Apple" from Season 2, Episode 5, where they land on a Garden of Eden-type planet. "Bladerunner" from 1982 is one movie that can be used as a theme. Party guests can dress as replicants and serve food that is Latin and Asian fusion.
