Ideas for Children's Clothing to Make an Old Outfit Look New
Children's clothing can be expensive, but you don't have to spend a fortune on clothes. There are plenty of ways to stretch your child's wardrobe -- and your budget -- by finding new ways to reinvent old outfits. Switching out a few key pieces or adding accessories will make last year's clothes look like new again.

Sweaters, Jackets and Layering
-
Breathe new life into your child's old outfits by layering different pieces to achieve an entirely new look. Add a cardigan or denim jacket over a T-shirt and jeans or skirt. Try colorful shirts beneath V-neck shirts and sweaters, or layer long-sleeved shirts beneath summer shirts to make them more comfortable when cold weather hits.
Belts, Scarves and Jewelry
-
Dress up an old coat or sweater with a colorful belt. Add a belt to a simple dress or skirt and shirt combination to add a pop of color. Give your child a cute scarf to wear with a sweater or long- sleeved shirt on chilly fall days. Encourage your child to add a simple necklace or a few bracelets to change the look of an outfit.

Tights and Leggings
-
Wearing tights or leggings is an excellent way to make your child's spring and summer clothes last throughout the year. Give your child colorful tights to wear beneath a cool summer dress; add a cardigan or jacket to fight off the chill. Turn a short summer dress into a stylish long tunic by adding leggings.
Alterations
-
Altering your children's old clothing may be less expensive than purchasing new outfits. Turn a pair of jeans into a pair of capris or shorts for warm weather by cutting and hemming the bottom of the jeans to your desired length. Turn an ankle-length skirt or dress into a summer dress by shortening it to the knee. Add flair to jeans or a jacket by sewing on sequins, buttons or other accessories.
