When you want to remind yourself of your last trip to the ocean, days spent kicking through the sand or hours spent searching for the perfect seashell, use your crafting ability to complete a handmade tropical beach project. When you finish, you will have a decorative item that transports you to the islands every time you see it.

Jewelry Crafts

Jewelry made from items associated with the beach can put you in the island mood even when you are miles away from the shore. Gather several small shells, use a tiny drill bit to bore a hole in them, string them onto jewelry wire and attach french hooks to make a dangling pair of earrings that remind you of the beach each time they brush your cheek. Alternatively, string a wealth of coral beads onto fishing line, and attach a decorative clasp to create a necklace that gives you the look of the islands no matter where you are.
Apparel and Accessory Crafts

Take a plain t-shirt and create an oceanic image on it with a variety of fabric paints. Squeeze the paint onto the shirt in the shape of a seashell, tropical fish, palm tree or beach scene. If you are not confident about creating a freestyle image, use fabric tracing paper and a stylus to trace an image onto the shirt and go over it with the fabric paint. In addition, use blooms from live or silk flowers to create a festive lei to wear to a barbecue or cookout. Pierce each bloom through the center with a large sewing needle threaded with heavy-duty thread, and secure the ends with a square knot to create a colorful island accessory.

When you want decorative items for your family room, office or desktop, you can easily incorporate items from the seaside into a simple craft project. Fill a fishbowl or clear glass canister partially with sand. Position seashells, starfish, seahorses and sand dollars on top of the sand to create a mini-seaside landscape. Cover a jewelry box, tissue box cover or picture frame by gluing seashells to it. Add miniature scrapbooking embellishments like seagulls, octopi and tropical fish to your item as well.
Visual Crafts

Create a visual reminder of the seashore scenery you love with watercolors. Set up your easel at the beach and capture the look of the sun, sand, sea and sky. Include details such as sandpipers, seagulls, seashells and grassy dunes to give your picture an aura of reality. Frame your painting when finished and hang it in a place of honor in your home.
Alternatively, assemble your favorite beach photographs into a collage with a self-sealing lamination pouch. Peel the paper backing from one side of the lamination pouch, and position your photographs on the sheet. Detach the paper backing from the top sheet, and slowly and gently cover your photo montage with it. Place the finished product on your work area as a colorful desk pad.
