Children Activities for Things That Start With the Letter "L"

Implement activities with children in elementary school that involve things that start with the letter L. Once children are familiar with the letter L, provide activities that review and reinforce what they have learned. Children can learn about things that start with the letter L through crafts, science activities, literacy activities and math activities.

  1. Crafts

    • Show children how to create an assortment of crafts that involve things that start with the letter L. For example, ask children to think of a short word that starts with the letter L. You can also use letter L math to teach children how to estimate as well as to review the concepts “more than” and “less than.” Another activity is to add items that begin with the letter L, such as limes or licorice sticks, to a jar or container. Ask children to guess the number of items in the container. Count the number of items in the container and evaluate the graph to determine whose estimate was closest to the actual number of items. Discuss whose guesses were “more than” and “less than” the true number of items.
