Tips on Engagement Photo Shoots
Photographers have the opportunity to capture a couple’s most magical moments. The engagement and anticipation before the wedding is one of the most exciting periods in a couple’s life. To capture the magic, photographers must keep a few tips in mind, from capturing the couple’s love story to carrying necessary equipment.
-
Back Stories
-
Find out how the newly engaged couple met and where they went on their first date. Incorporate that into the photo shoot. If the couple had their first date at a restaurant, for example, perform a photo shoot at that restaurant. Perform a series of photos that tell their story, from first date and first kiss to engagement and marriage. Also, get a photograph of the engagement ring. Incorporate the couple’s future wedding date into some of their photos.
Observe
-
Observe how the couple interacts with each other. Capture the moments that shows how much the couple cares for each other. This may be capturing their smiles, eye contact or a slight back rub.
-
Create a Comfortable Photo Shoot
-
Take 15 minutes to warm up. Encourage the couple to relax. Ask about their favorite hobbies and activities. Have them play games and participate in their hobbies to loosen them up. These activities help them exhibit their personalities. Be sociable. Ask plenty of questions. Also, ensure that they are physically comfortable. Keep the camera nearby to take photographs during unexpected moments.
Request Input
-
It’s important that you incorporate your clients wants and needs. Request comments before and after the photo shoot. Let them preview your portfolio and point out what type of pictures fit their style. Allow them to preview photographs. Doing this on the first photo shoot helps prevent negative reactions and future reshoots.
Hire Help
-
An assistant can make the photo shoot easier. Assistants can handle photography equipment. They may also help with props and posing. A second pair of eyes can also help you ensure that each photograph comes out correctly.
Locations
-
Ask your client about requested locations. In addition, inquire what the couple will be wearing before scouting locations. This simple step prevents color clash with backgrounds. Another important step is to obtain permission to shoot in each location. Have backup locations in mind in case of bad weather or the venues become unavailable.
Equipment
-
Bring the proper equipment to each photo shoot. Equipment such as reflectors, flashes and light stands may be necessary depending on the weather and the location. Also, bring backup lenses, batteries and memory cards.
