Mermaid Shell Crafts
Mermaids are mythical creatures that have fascinated the world for centuries. Part beautiful woman and part fish, mermaids are often associated with the mysteries that surround the world's seas, and were regarded as good luck symbols as well as omens of doom to sailors. Create your own mermaid crafts through use of found items such as seashells.

Crafts With Figurines
-
Small mermaid figurines of assorted styles and colors can be used to create mermaid shell crafts. Use whole shells for some crafts, such as clam shells, and place the mermaid figurine within the shell. Keep the shell open with glue and small twig pieces if needed so the craft looks like a mermaid is emerging from the shell. Another option is to simply glue plastic mermaid figurines to the inside of shell pieces as standalone crafts or as Christmas ornaments. If making ornaments, use hot glue to attach ribbon to the shell.
Jewelry Crafts
-
Shell pieces of varying sizes and shapes can be used as canvases for mermaid images. Use small drills to make holes in the shells for threading ribbon, necklace chains or other jewelry pieces, such as earring backs. Paint a mermaid image on a large shell piece to make a necklace or create mermaid tail images on smaller shells to make earrings. Holes can be drilled on either side of a shell piece with ribbon threaded through them as a bracelet that features a mermaid image.

Carved Shell Crafts
-
Use shell pieces carved into mermaid fins or mermaid tails as part of a mermaid craft. Polymer clay, paper or even wood can be used to make the mermaid body, with dried seaweed or yarn used as hair if desired. Display the craft as separate pieces brought together, or use hot glue to keep all craft items together. Longer shell pieces can work as mermaid tails. Another option is to use small shells as the mermaid's top on a wooden or clay mermaid model.
Additional Painted Shell Crafts
-
Large art pieces can be created by painting sizable shells with mermaid designs. Paint numerous mermaid images over a large, unbroken shell, such as a conch shell, or piece large shell pieces together with part of a mermaid painted on each shell. A lounging mermaid can be created by painting part of the mermaid on three or four shells of the same size and shape that are displayed together in a row.
