Things You'll Need

  • Pictures, memorabilia

  • Scissors

  • Poster board

  • White glue

The word "collage" originates from the French word "coller," which means to stick or to glue. A collage is made from assembling different material into a unique work of art. When making a collage about yourself, think about things that make you unique. Things that interest you, pieces of memorabilia, items that represent what you like to do should all be included in a collage.

Step 1

Collect pictures and items about yourself to include in your collage. Find pictures of yourself with your family and friends, baby pictures, pictures of things in magazines that you like and 3-D objects such as flowers, jewelery, guitar picks, or anything that represents who you are and what your goals are. Find items such as ticket stubs, theater programs, newspaper articles or other memorabilia from your life.

Step 2

Cut the pictures into different shapes. Having everything all one size will make your collage uninteresting. Make the pictures different shapes and sizes.

Step 3

Place the items on a piece of poster board, arranging them in visually appealing and interesting manner. Avoid placing all the pictures straight. Place some tilted and overlap some on top of others.

Step 4

Glue the pictures to the poster board once you have arranged the pictures in an appealing manner. Glue the items to the poster board using white glue. Glue the 3-D objects on also with white glue, then allow the glue to dry.

Tip

Consider adding a fabric or lace border.

Warning

Avoid using excessive glue, or your pictures may rip.
