Crafts With Tiny Clay Pots
Although intended for plants and flowers, many people use clay pots to make a variety of crafts. Tiny clay pots are inexpensive and available at most craft stores. Turn small terra cotta pots into an assortment of decorations for your home or give the finished projects away as gifts for the holidays. Clay art projects give you a chance to show off your artistic skills and creativity.

Decoupage
-
Decoupage tiny clay pots with basic tissue paper. Tear the paper into small strips and paint a coat of medium decoupage glue on the pot. Apply a layer of tissue paper and paint on more glue. Keep adding layers of paper and glue until you achieve your desired look. Create “bug” pots to put in the garden. For example, decoupage black and yellow stripes to make a bumblebee or red with black dots for a ladybug. Add chenille stems to create stingers, antennas and legs for added decoration.
Wind Chimes
-
Make wind chimes using tiny clay pots in three different sizes. Tie a knot in twine and slide a wooden bead on the twine. Slide on the smallest clay pot with the opening down onto the twine. Add another knot and add the next biggest size pot. The three pots should be overlapping each other so when you shake them they make the sound of wind chimes. Another idea is to hang each tiny pot from a piece of twine. Tie the pieces of twine around a metal ring at about the same length so the pots will tap together when the wind blows them.

People
-
Create miniature clay pot people using paint and glue. For men or boys, glue the openings of two pots together and make the wide strip the belt. Paint clothes on the pots. Use round wood balls for the heads and paint faces on each one. Make women or girls by stacking two clay pots on top of one another (upside-down) to look like a skirt. Add the wood ball for the head and paint on the clothes. Use yarn to create hair for the women and girls. Miniature people are perfect for dollhouses.
Holidays
-
Use tiny clay pots to make holiday centerpieces for a table. For Easter, glue together the open ends of the pots and paint the pots to resemble Easter eggs. Place them on a platter and scatter a bag of Easter grass between them. Paint Valentine pots red, white and pink. Use small paint pens to write “Be Mine” and “Happy Valentine’s Day” on the pots. For Christmas, make clay pot people into Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman.
