Swedish Flag Bookmark Crafts

Much of Sweden is covered in woods and pastures.

Whether you are of Swedish heritage, or you are teaching an elementary class about different cultures of the world, making a bookmark that displays the Swedish flag will create a fun reminder for your children, or be a way for you to show your pride in your culture. Several different options exist for making bookmark crafts with Swedish flags.

  1. Printable Bookmarks

    • Several different websites offer you the chance to print out bookmark templates with the flags and names of countries from around the world, both in color or in black and white (See Resources). If you choose color printing, all you'll need to do is run the sheet through a laminator after printing, and then cut out the individual bookmarks. If you want to personalize each bookmark, have your students add personal touches after printing, but before laminating. If you printed black-and-white bookmarks, have your students color the blue field and yellow diagonal cross on the flag, and add any decorative items.

    Fun Fact Bookmarks

    • For this project, you can take card stock and cut it into bookmark shapes. On one side, you can draw an elongated Swedish flag -- again, with a blue field and yellow diagonals -- and on the other side you can list some fun facts about Sweden, such as the capital (Stockholm), the population, the national bird, the national anthem, famous Swedes and so on. Then, laminate your bookmark.

    Bookmark That's Also a Map

    • Sweden, as a country, has a long, slender shape that has a slight curve to both sides. Using a map, trace the shape of Sweden onto a rectangle of card stock and then cut it out. On one side, draw in the physical features and mark the major cities, such as Stockholm and Malmo. On the other side, draw the Swedish flag theme inside the shape of the map. Then, laminate for a bookmark.

    Swedish Figures

    • For this series, raw a flag on one side of the bookmark, and then on the other, draw some famous figures from Sweden's history and culture. The king at time of publication was Carl XVI Gustaf, one of Sweden's most famous musical groups is ABBA, and the Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgard had a leading role in "Good Will Hunting." The retail giant IKEA also hails from Sweden. Label each picture with the person's name, and you'll have a "Who's Who" of Sweden's most famous denizens.
