Air Force Computer Technician Salary

Wages for Air Force personnel are dictated by federal law and dependent in part on rank and time in service.

  1. Enlisted Salary

    • Annual basic pay for enlisted members of the Air Force begins at $17,604 for pay grade E-1, as of the 2011 fiscal year, according to the Air Force. An airman does not proceed to his career field training in computer technology until after completing 8.5 weeks of basic training. An airman with a high school diploma and 15 hours of college credit may qualify to train in the computer tech field of aerospace control and warning systems. The airman earns nine college credit hours for completing training in the field. Upon promotion to the pay grade of E-2, the airman's pay increases to $19,740. An airman first class, pay grade E-3, with less than two years of service earns $20,760.

    Noncommissioned Officer Salary

    • Noncommissioned officers in the Air Force who worked in computer technician fields, such as cyber systems operations, earn higher wages than lower enlisted personnel. A staff sergeant, pay grade E-5, with more than two years service earns $26,760, as of the 2011 fiscal year, according to the Air Force. A technical sergeant, pay grade E-6 with more than four years served, earns $32,736 per year. A senior master sergeant, pay grade E-8, with more than 10 years service earns $47,544 per year.

    Officer Salary

    • Officers in the Air Force may supervise computer technicians in a variety of occupational specialties, including cyberspace operations. Annual salaries for Air Force officers at the company grade level, pay grades O-1 through O-3, range from $33,396 to $72,468, as of the 2011 fiscal year, according to the Air Force. Field grade officers, pay grades O-4 through O-6, receive $50,664 to $124,692 per year.

    Benefits

    • Air Force computer technicians receive other significant benefits in addition to their base pay, including free housing on base or a housing allowance if they choose to live off-base. Airmen receive an allowance for meals. Airmen and their dependents may shop at on-base grocery and department stores that are free from sales taxes. Air Force personnel have the option of retiring after completing 20 years of service.
