The Genius Bar Is Missing in iTunes 9
ITunes 9 may no longer be the most recent version, but still includes fun features like Genius to help find new music and make automatic mixes. You access Genius through the Genius Bar on the right side of the iTunes application window, but Genius can be hard to find if for some reason the sidebar is missing. If you don't see your Genius Bar in iTunes 9, it's probably due to simple settings that you can fix.

Genius is a free service provided by iTunes that makes music recommendations based on your current iTunes library. In addition, you can also use Genius to make automatic playlists based on specific songs or Genius mixes based on genre. To use Genius, you must have an Apple ID and be logged in to your account in iTunes.
Sidebar View Options

If you don't see the Genius bar on the right in your iTunes, first check your sidebar view. Click "View" in the top menu bar and then click "Show Sidebar." Your Genius Bar should pop out on the right side of your iTunes Library. If you look in the lower right corner, just under the sidebar, you will see a small rectangle icon with an arrow inside, similar to a "Play" button icon. Click this icon to toggle your sidebar on and off.

One possible reason the Genius Bar is absent from your iTunes is that you simply don't have it turned on. You have the option to turn Genius off or on, and when it's turned off, the options disappear from the iTunes application window. To turn Genius on, click "Store" in the top menu bar of iTunes and then click "Turn on Genius." You'll be prompted to enter your Apple ID and password, at which point iTunes will analyze your library. The Genius Bar should appear on the right after the process is complete.

If you use iTunes ping, you may notice that even with the Genius Bar on the right, you don't see your Genius recommendations. This is because Apple lists your ping activity first, but if you scroll to the bottom of the sidebar you should find your Genius recommendations alive and well. You can also access Genius through the button in the lower right corner of the window or in your playlist menu on the left.
