Stray away from the traditional teddy bear or nursery rhyme theme when decorating your baby's nursery and choose a theme that's a little more cutting-edge to create a one-of-a-kind space for your little bundle. A rock-and-roll-themed nursery is upbeat, fun and funky, making it a stimulating space for your child. Whether decorating the nursery for a boy or a girl, you can easily personalize this theme to suite your preferences.

Walls

Choose a color palette for the walls of the nursery. Make a statement by choosing a bold accent color for a focal wall and complement it with a neutral color on the remaining walls. Paint a hot pink focal wall for a girl or an electric blue focal wall for a boy; in either space, use a shade of cool gray as a neutral color on the remaining walls. Alternatively, paint all of the walls a neutral shade of gray and hang a wallpaper border that features brightly colored stars, guitars or musical notes.

Furniture Pieces

There are some must-have pieces of furniture for any nursery, including a crib, changing table and a dresser, but the type of finish you pick for these pieces will complement the look of a rock-and-roll-themed nursery. Suspend a mobile made up of glittering stars over the crib. Frame the lyrics to some of your favorite rock-and-roll songs and pictures of your favorite rock-and-roll artists and set them out on shelves and on top of the dresser. In the corner of the room, set up toy instruments, including drums, a guitar and a microphone, that your little one can play with as she gets older.
