Accent the walls with vinyl records.

Stray away from the traditional teddy bear or nursery rhyme theme when decorating your baby's nursery and choose a theme that's a little more cutting-edge to create a one-of-a-kind space for your little bundle. A rock-and-roll-themed nursery is upbeat, fun and funky, making it a stimulating space for your child. Whether decorating the nursery for a boy or a girl, you can easily personalize this theme to suite your preferences. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Walls

    • Choose a color palette for the walls of the nursery. Make a statement by choosing a bold accent color for a focal wall and complement it with a neutral color on the remaining walls. Paint a hot pink focal wall for a girl or an electric blue focal wall for a boy; in either space, use a shade of cool gray as a neutral color on the remaining walls. Alternatively, paint all of the walls a neutral shade of gray and hang a wallpaper border that features brightly colored stars, guitars or musical notes.

    Furniture Pieces

    • There are some must-have pieces of furniture for any nursery, including a crib, changing table and a dresser, but the type of finish you pick for these pieces will complement the look of a rock-and-roll-themed nursery. White or black lacquered pieces are well-suited for this style, as their clean lines create a modern look that ties into the contemporary rock theme. While not essential, bookshelves add storage and display space for a nursery. If you decide to include a bookshelf, choose one that matches the rest of the furniture.

    Textiles

    • Use the textiles to create a glam look for the rock-and-roll-themed nursery. Cover the bed with unexpected black sheets, or opt for bright solid-colored sheets. Hang a comforter that features an image of a guitar or brightly colored stars over the railing of the crib. Hang curtains made of fabric with a glittery effect on the windows: rhinestones, sequins or metallic thread, for example. Create a soft play area on the floor for your little one by placing a black shag or brightly colored area rug, or a novelty area rug that is shaped like a guitar or a star.

    Accessories

    • Put the finishing touches on your rocking nursery with accessories. Hang old vinyl records or album covers on the walls. Add decals of stars, guitars and musical notes. Suspend a mobile made up of glittering stars over the crib. Frame the lyrics to some of your favorite rock-and-roll songs and pictures of your favorite rock-and-roll artists and set them out on shelves and on top of the dresser. In the corner of the room, set up toy instruments, including drums, a guitar and a microphone, that your little one can play with as she gets older.
