Microsoft released Internet Explorer 9 in 2011.

The history function in Internet Explorer 9 allows you to see the Web pages that you have visited recently and return to them quickly without looking for them again on a search engine. If you are unable to find a page in your history, however, you may be able to return to a page you recently viewed by using the Google Web History service or by repeating a search and looking for the links you clicked.

  1. History

    • If you have configured Internet Explorer 9 to save your browsing history, you can view your visited pages by pressing "F10" to open the menu bar at the top of the screen, and then clicking "View," "Explorer Bars" and "History." Alternatively, press the "Ctrl," "Shift" and "H" keys simultaneously. Internet Explorer displays a new panel titled "History." By default, Internet Explorer organizes the history by date; click a date to see a list of the Web pages you viewed that day.

    Google Web History

    • If you have a Google account and browse the Web while logged in, Google gives you the ability to record a history of the pages that you visit. Deleting the history in Internet Explorer does not delete your Web history on Google. To see your Web history, type the address "google.com/history" in Internet Explorer and press "Enter."

    Toolbars and Search Engines

    • Yahoo, Microsoft's Bing and Google all make browser toolbars for Internet Explorer. In addition, Bing displays your recent searches on the left side of each results page. Google tracks searches that you make while logged in if you enable the Web History function. If you have deleted your history in Internet Explorer, you may still be able to find a page you have visited recently by looking at the recent searches made through a browser toolbar or search engine. Because the color of a link changes when you visit it, you can simply repeat a search to see the results that you clicked previously.

    Enabling History in Internet Explorer

    • If you are unable to find a page that you visited previously in Internet Explorer 9 because the browser is not recording your history, enable this feature to begin saving your history again. Click the gear-shaped button in the upper-right corner of the window, and then click "Internet Options." Click the "General" tab, and then click the "Settings" button under "Browsing History." Enter a value other than "0" in the field after "Days to keep pages in history," and then click "OK."
