The Advantages of a Ceramic Disc Type Faucet
A ceramic disc faucet is made with a special part called a cartridge. Inside the cartridge, two ceramic discs help regulate the water flow into the faucet. This type of faucet has many advantages over the traditional, stem valve faucet that has two stems and a valve seat, one in each handle. Does this Spark an idea?

Design and Features
-
A ceramic disc faucet has two ceramic discs sealed together in a water-tight cylinder, with one of the discs rotating freely over the other. Inlet holes in the discs line up when the handle turns; this is what allows water to flow through the spout. This design offers two advantages: ease of use and accuracy in setting the water temperature. Since the discs line up to open an inlet, users can set the water temperature by moving the handle slightly to one side or the other.
Repairing a Disc Faucet
-
Repairing a ceramic disc faucet is easier than repairing a stem and valve model. If the ceramic disc faucet ever leaks or does not produce the right temperature water, the user just needs to take the cartridge out and replace it. Since the cartridge is right under the handle, all the homeowner has to do is remove the handle and a retaining nut to take the cartridge out. The entire faucet does not have to be disassembled, and no special tools are required.

Durability
-
Ceramic is a very hard and durable material. In fact, a ceramic disc faucet is nearly impervious to damage, except from sediment and mineral deposits. The only time damage occurs to the faucet is when a piece of hard sediment gets in between the two discs. If this happens, the sediment scratches the disc surface, and a leak will form. Otherwise, ceramic will not rust and rarely cracks because it is not temperature-sensitive, like metal.
Other User Features
-
Ceramic disc faucets also offer a range of additional features to owners, including the ability to operate both the hot and cold water with one handle. This is impossible to do with dual handle, stem and valve faucets. Another feature is the scald guard, which attaches to the disc. This limits the handle's rotation to reduce the maximum water temperature, preventing burns and scalding.
