What Are the Benefits of IP CCTV?
Internet Protocol Closed Circuit Television (IP CCTV) systems integrate Internet networking technology into security and surveillance camera networks. Depending on the implementation and intended usage of the system, IP CCTV can present a number of advantages in cost savings, control, and access over digital CCTV.
-
Remote Access
-
The video signal from a camera configured for IP CCTV is converted into digital format, making its data accessible from any digitally formatted viewing device. This includes computer Internet browsers, smartphones, or Internet-enabled TV's. This allows administrators to view and control camera systems on the go, traditional analog or digital CCTV systems typically have to be controlled on site at a single control area.
Data Storage
-
Since video signals and data are transmitted into digital format, they can be stored, organized, and compressed as a video file. This is an easy and cost effective method for companies who can leverage existing server space and staff for managing the data. It also makes data easy to duplicate and send to third parties for storage or additional investigation.
-
Wireless
-
IP CCTV cameras come with built-in signal encryption to send and receive data securely over a Wireless Local Area Network. According to CCTV experts Tyco Integrated Systems, IP CCTV systems use standard Ethernet Cat 5/6 structured cable for all input and output data if a wired connection is preferred. This is a cheaper alternative to fiber optic cables needed in digital and analog systems. This makes for easy installation and changes to the CCTV array.
Future Integration
-
Since IP CCTV systems are not a separate entity from existing IT systems and based around IP technology. Like most software and operating systems of today, they will adapt easily to advancements in software and internet technology. Data from IP CCTV can also be analyzed using video software, and combined with other security data to provide administrators with full situational awareness.
