Fun Craft With Bangles

Bangles are a popular fashion accessory.

Bangles come in a variety of materials including plastic, metal and strung beads. Colors vary also, but they may not always provide you with the variety you want. Whether you take your old bangles and refurbish them into new and unique bangles or re-purpose them as a handle for a purse or a clothing decoration, you can add color, variety and originality to your wardrobe and furnishings.

  1. Wrapping Bangles

    • Take an old bangle and wrap it to create a great new look. A thin strip of fabric, yarn, heavy thread or any soft, pliable material will wrap around a bangle. Place a drop of glue on the bangle and hold the fabric or yarn in the glue until it adheres to the bangle. Tightly wrap the bangle, keeping each loop as close to the previous one as possible. Glue the end of the wrap to the bangle when you’re done. Twist several colors of yarn or twine together to make multi-colored wrapped bangles or braid them together before wrapping. You have endless possibilities.

    Covered Bangles

    • Cut old greeting cards, wrapping paper scraps, envelopes, scrapbook paper or newspaper comics into thin strips or chunks and layer them on your bangle with decoupage glue. Create a distinctive pattern or opt for a random effect. Rough up the bangle with a little sandpaper to make your glue and papers adhere better and smooth out any air bubbles to create a smooth finish that won’t quickly and easily peal off.

    Bangles from Scratch

    • Create your own bangles by stringing beads on stretch cord or use thin bead wire and a clasp. You can knit a bangle using circular needles and a simple knit-and-purl pattern of your choice. Similarly, many crochet stitches lend themselves to creating lovely crocheted bangles. Mix yarn colors together or make multiple thin bangles in different colors to combine to artfully accessorize your clothes.

    Re-purposed Bangles

    • Re-purpose bangles, even broken ones, to create useful and attractive home furnishings. Use the broken pieces of glass bangles to create mosaics by gluing the pieces together in attractive patterns inside wooden or metal frames. Matched, thin wooden or plastic bangles can replace or create purse handles. Frame pictures with bangles and connect the pictures with ribbon or paper backing to create distinctive wall art. Crochet round, flat spirals and slip them inside a bangle to make unique trivets or coasters.

    Bangles on Clothing

    • Re-purpose bangles and make them part of your clothing. Use short loops of ribbon or trim to attach a bangle to the top of a strapless top or dress. Use longer pieces of ribbon or trim on the top side of the bangle to create straps that crisscross to the back of the dress or tie at the neck in a halter styles. Stitch flexible, thin bangles onto a T-shirt or dress to frame an appliqué or embroidered accent. Use short pieces of chain to connect bangles together and make a wide belt for a dress or tunic.
