Lizard Puppet Craft

Providing children with an artistic outlet helps stimulate their minds. In fact, a simple puppet craft aids in hand-eye coordination and color recognition. A unique puppet craft can use a lizard as its subject. Created lizards can have a long, protruding red tongue to simulate a real life lizard, introducing natural science to the children in an amusing activity.

  1. Sock Puppet

    • Lizards can be easily formed from a sock. Try to purchase bright green socks, or white socks dyed green can be used. Give the children paper ovals to glue into the sock's toe area, folding the paper in the middle to create a mouth. Craft eyes or paper eyes can be applied to the sock, as well as a red tongue glued into the mouth. Children simply place their hand into the sock to make it "talk."

    Brown Lunch Bag Puppet

    • Brown bags, manufactured specifically for school lunches, are an alternative puppet body choice. Children can cut out green construction paper and glue it across the bag's exterior to create the lizard's body. Paper arms and legs can be attached to the bag's sides. The bottom of the bag, at its folding crease, acts as the lizard's mouth. Glue a tongue within the fold so that it protrudes outward.

    Bubble Wrap Puppet

    • Cut a lizard's body shape from two pieces of bubble wrap. The bubble wrap should be stapled together, allowing an open gap at the lizard's rear for the hand to reach inside. Children can paint the bubbles green with a small paint roller. Before the paint dries, the children can place small green paper pieces across the bubbles, creating a scaly appearance.

    Considerations

    • Choosing the lizard puppet craft depends on the age group. The more complicated bubble wrap lizard project should be reserved for older children. Younger children may be more entertained with the paper bag puppet since they can also add their own drawings to the outside bag surface.
