Three Pigs Craft

Make your own three little pigs and straw house craft.

Revisit the Three Little Pigs story with a creative craft to make the story come to life. Have youth create their own story visuals before you tell them the tale again. Simple items you probably have around the home make this an inexpensive craft to create, and kids will enjoy being a part of the storytelling.

  1. Straw House

    • Use an empty pint milk carton for this project. Staple the top closed before giving to youth and after carton has been rinsed out and dried. Provide glue and brown paper bag pieces to cover all sides and the top of the milk carton. This will be the straw house for one of the Three Little Pigs. Supply a black magic marker for youth to draw a window and door. Provide hay as the straw to be glued onto the house on all four sides, as well as the top of the first pig's house.

    Wood House

    • Ask youth to glue Popsicle sticks together for this house's four sides. You can use twigs if that works better for your budget. Have them glue sticks together at an angle to place on top of the house, for the roof. Glue some other sticks onto the top of a piece of brown poster board, to serve as a floor. Set the glued stick house on top of it, giving it a foundation. Use black magic marker to draw a door knob on one of the sticks and a fake window.

    Brick House

    • Use the bottom portion of a shoe box for this house. Have youth cover it with red construction paper and turn it over, so the open side becomes the house floor. Your brick house will have a flat roof. Use a ruler to draw silver lines on the paper with a felt tip pen to resemble brick mortar. Ask youth to leave a space for a door outlined with a black felt marker, as well as a silver-trimmed window. Put small pieces of round pink construction paper in the window to mimic the Three Little Pigs, as if they are all inside.

    Three Little Pigs and Wolf

    • Tell youth to cut, wrap and glue on pink construction paper to each of the three empty sewing thread spools. They need to add a flat round piece of pink paper to the front of each pig, as a face, as well as a flat pink piece to the back, as the rear. Provide a piece of short pink confetti for them to glue onto each pig, as the swirly tail. Supply four black beans for each pig made, to be glued onto the bottom four corners of the covered thread spool, as pig feet. A white bean can be glued on as a nose, with small black beads serving as eyes. Pink felt can be cut into ears to attach to the pig's head. Add a plastic wolf figurine to complete the story.
