Fun Sewing Crafts for Beginners
For the person hoping to learn to sew, there are a variety of fun and creative beginner level projects. These projects often involve basic sewing techniques with minimal amounts of fabric. Even though these are beginner projects, the end result is still a useful item for daily life.

Place-Mat Purse
-
This place-mat purse pattern is a great way to re-purpose an old place mat while learning about sewing. The project is a simple one, requiring a beginner seamstress to sew the sides together. The corners must be sewn in a triangle shape in order for the purse to have a flat bottom. A cord should be sewn onto the sides of the purse to create the straps.
Terry-Cloth Curtain
-
A new seamstress can create a terry-cloth curtain for her shower, another beginner sewing project resulting in a practical item for the home. This project requires a person to sew two bath towels together lengthwise. Then, 28 metal grommets can be attached to the top of the new shower curtain. Using 14 shower hooks, the new curtain is ready to hang in front of a standard-sized tub.

Bandana Beach Bag
-
Another fun beginner sewing project is the bandana beach bag. Two old bandanas are sewn together on three sides to create the base for the bag. Next, a cord should be hemmed into the top of the bag. Once the hem is created on the top of the bag, the cord can be pulled shut to seal the bag. This is a great addition for the household; it can easily carry books, lotion and other supplies to the beach and park.
Christmas Stocking
-
For a beginner seamstress hoping to get into the holiday spirit, there is an easy Christmas stocking craft she can complete. After cutting two Christmas stocking shapes out of fabric, the stockings can be sewn together using either thread or ribbon, depending on preference. This is a fun holiday project and can be used as a gift. The new seamstress will be proud as the stocking hangs from the fireplace on Christmas Eve.
