Tongue Depressor Santa Craft
Tongue depressors are easy for children to work with and can be used as the basis for many crafts. Use tongue depressors to make different Santa Claus-themed crafts to excite children about the upcoming holidays. The crafts can be used as toys or small gifts the children can make for their friends or family.

Santa Claus Puppet
-
Make Santa Claus hand puppets with tongue depressors. Give the children pages from a coloring book of Santa Claus's face. Children can use markers and crayons to color Santa's beard, hair, face and eyes. They can then cut the picture out and glue the picture to the top of a tongue depressor to create a puppet. If they are young children, you may need to cut the face out for them.
Santa Claus Bookmark
-
Make a Santa Claus bookmark with a tongue depressor. Paint or use markers to color the tongue depressor. Use green, red or silver for Christmas-themed colors. At one end of the tongue depressor, place a puffy sticker or glue a small picture of Santa Claus. To use the bookmark, place the tongue depressor between the pages, leaving the image on the end extending from the book.

Santa Claus Ornament
-
Use a tongue depressor to construct a Santa Claus ornament. Paint the tongue depressor half red on one side and all red on the back. Cut four inches of ribbon to use for a hanger. Fold the ribbon in half and glue the ends to the top end of the tongue depressor on the unpainted end. Cut a 1-inch-long Santa Claus hat out of red felt or construction paper. Glue the hat on top of the ribbon ends to hide them. Draw Santa’s face with markers immediately underneath the hat, where the stick is unpainted. Glue a cotton ball immediately beneath the face to represent Santa's beard. Add a second cotton ball if needed to cover any unpainted space. Use a black marker to draw the buttons of his jacket and the black belt on the red section of the depressor.
North Pole Magnet
-
Make a magnet to represent the North Pole, Santa Claus's home. This is often represented in children's literature as a literal pole having red and white stripes like a candy cane or a barber's pole. Instruct children to color and decorate the tongue depressor according to their idea of what this pole would look like. Provide them with markers, glitter, tinsel and ribbons. Add an adhesive magnet strip to the back of the tongue depressor when the decorations are complete.
