Lava lamps give off a faint glow and provide constant movement.

Whether you lived in the 1970s or wish you had, a 1970’s bathroom theme will send you back in time. Even in a small space such as the bathroom, decorating ideas will transition your room into an unmistakable 1970’s theme. Enjoy the fads as you integrate them into your bathroom and take a walk down memory lane. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Lava Lamp

    • Enjoy the unusual glow of a colorful lava lamp instead of the traditional nightlight for your bathroom. The lamps consist of slow-moving globs of wax and oil. A low-wattage bulb heats the substance, causing a slow, lava-like motion. Within an hour, the wax globs rise and fall inside the globe to create a constantly changing display. Lava lamps are still available and come in a variety of colors to complement your bathroom colors.

    Shag Carpet

    • Pamper your bare feet while going through your morning routine. A shag carpet or area rug is sure to liven up a boring bathroom floor. Select a rug to place the length of the bathroom vanity and alongside the bathtub or shower. You can easily keep the shag looking fresh using a plastic, wide-tooth rake to lift the carpet fibers.

    Tie Dye

    • Make a bold statement with tie-dyed window curtains and a matching shower curtain, following the instructions on the dye package for all the particulars needed for your one-of-a-kind design. If you're moderately familiar with a sewing machine, a decorative curtain can be made from a single-size bed sheet. Three sides of the sheet are already hemmed. Finish the decorative curtain by cutting the sheet to the desired length and sewing a pocket for the shower rod. You'll want to mount the tie-dyed curtain slightly in front and higher than the plastic shower curtain.

    Peace Sign Border

    • Make your own peace-sign wall border stencil from thin plastic or poster board. Spacing the symbols along the top of the wall, use colors to coordinate with other bathroom accessories. A blank wall with sporadic symbols alleviates the need for pictures.

    Rubik’s Cube

    • Set a Rubik's cube on the vanity for those who need a little entertainment in the bathroom. The intriguing cube has nine squares on each of the six sides. The winning combination results when each side contains the same colored squares. White, blue, red, yellow, orange and green are the colors used and will fit into almost any 1970's bathroom decor.
