What Is a Calendar Group on iCal?

A calendar group in iCal is a digital folder that helps you organize multiple iCal calendars and display the calendars within the program‘s Select Calendar list. The organization tool is ideal for managing personal and business calendars you have on your computer as well as calendars related to multiple projects. You can assign a distinct name to a calendar group and drag as many calendars into the group as you want.

  1. Creating

    • Click “File” and “New Calendar Group” to a create a calendar group within iCal. Enter a name for your new calendar group and then press “Enter.” Click and drag the calendars you want from the calendar list into the calendar group. You can create as many calendar groups as you want and any time you want. You can even export the calendar group by clicking “File” and “Export as Calendar” to send the group to a removable disk or to a shared folder on a computer network.

    Accessing

    • Each iCal calendar group is listed under the Select Calendar heading. Click the calendar group name to open the folder and view its contents. Click the check box next to a calendar name to open the individual calendar within a group. You can also click and drag a calendar out of a specific group and place it within another calendar group.

    Multiple Calendars and Deleting

    • You can store as many calendars as you want within an iCal calendar group. Be specific with naming calendar groups so you have some idea of what calendars are in each group. You can also delete a calendar group. Click on the calendar group to select it and then click “Edit” and “Delete.” Deleting a calendar group also deletes any calendars within the group.

    Creating Additional Calendars

    • Click the “+” button under iCal’s calendar list to create a new calendar. Enter a name in the highlighted box and then press “Enter.” You can also create a new calendar by double clicking anywhere there's white space within the calendar list. A highlighted box appears for you to enter the calendar’s name.
