IPhone Repair at the Apple Stores

Every Apple store contains an area called the Mac Genius Bar. This part of the store handles all support and repairs for Apple products. The Mac Genius Bar employees handle both software and hardware issues for your iPhone. Depending upon your issue, you may be able to talk to a Mac Genius technician and solve your iPhone problem instantly. If not, many repairs can be fixed within a few days.

  1. Make a Genius Bar Appointment

    • Many Apple product owners make the mistake of showing up at an Apple store without an appointment. Apple stores, by and large, have a constant flow of customers throughout the day, and without an appointment it could take more than an hour to get help from an Apple technician. Visit the Mac Genius Bar website at Apple.com and make an appointment. This ensures that you will be helped right away when you arrive at the store.

    Understand Your Warranty

    • Every iPhone includes a one-year hardware and software warranty. This means that Apple will repair any hardware defect in the phone within one year of its purchase date. This does not include damage caused by a user accident. For instance, Apple will not replace an iPhone dropped in water. If your iPhone is more than a year old, Apple still provides free software support but it will likely charge you a fee to fix a hardware problem.

    Prepare for Appointment

    • Apple recommends that for iPhone issues you bring every piece of equipment originally provided with the device. This includes a docking station, charger, USB data cable and headphones. Depending on your specific issue, the Genius Bar employee may use one or more of these components. Write a list of questions you have for the Apple technician. This can help you think through your specific problem.

    Attend the Appointment and Repairs

    • When speaking with the Genius Bar employee, you should walk the technician through the problems you are having. Provide as much detail as you can to help the employee diagnose your issue. After performing a careful examination of your iPhone, the employee will likely explain the source of the problem. She will then recommend the necessary repairs for your phone. Often times, the Mac Genius employees can fix the device in-store after a few hours of work. They may, however, need to send the device to Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, California. If this is the case, it may take several weeks until you get your iPhone back.
