Scholarships for Students With a Parent in the Army Reserves
When you are searching for college scholarships, any connection that may help you qualify for more money can be welcome. Students who have a parent in the Army Reserves are eligible for a couple of national scholarship programs. In addition, survivors of parents who were enrolled in the Reserves and died in the line of duty are eligible for a couple of other national scholarship programs.

The Army Reserve Association

With assistance from the United Services Automobile Association, the Army Reserve Association offers approximately 50 college scholarships each year to the dependents of U.S. Army Reserve personnel. Students pursuing both two-year and four-year degrees are eligible. Army Reserve Association scholarships are valued at $500 each. Applications may be printed from the Army Reserve Association website (armyreserve.org) and must be submitted by the annual deadline of July 1.
Fisher House Foundation

The Fisher House Foundation makes scholarship money available to the sons and daughters of Army Reserve personnel through its Scholarships for Military Children Program. Scholarships awarded through this program are valued at a minimum of $1,500. To be eligible, you must be unmarried, under the age of 23, and must have a GPA of at least 3.0. Scholarships may be downloaded from the Fisher House Foundation website (militaryscholar.org) and must be submitted by the annual application deadline of Feb. 22.

Pat Tillman Foundation

If you are the survivor of a former Army Reserve member who was activated and died in the line of duty, you are eligible to apply for scholarships through the Pat Tillman Foundation's Tillman Military Scholars program. While scholarship funds administered through this program will pay for both undergraduate and graduate study, you must be attending school on a full-time basis. Award amounts vary by applicant. Applications are available from the Pat Tillman Foundation website (pattillmanfoundation.org).
The American Legion

Dependents of former Army Reserve personnel who died in the line of duty after Sept. 11, 2001 are eligible to receive scholarship support through the American Legion's national Legacy Scholarship Program. To be eligible, you must be a graduating high school senior at the time of application. Award amounts vary by year and by individual applicant. Scholarship applications may be obtained by visiting the American Legion website (legion.org) and must be submitted before the annual application deadline of April 15.
