Mailbox Centerpiece Craft
A utilitarian item like a mailbox can suddenly become a decorative centerpiece for a party or event. Use a little imagination and some simple arts and crafts supplies to add decorative elements to a plain mailbox to create a centerpiece that will get people talking. A mailbox is an appropriate centerpiece for a Valentine's party, a going-away gathering or a wedding reception.

Valentine's Day
-
Turn a plain mailbox into a romantic and useful centerpiece to use at a Valentine's Day party. Paint the box red, pink or white and use glittery craft foam cut into heart shapes to embellish. Or make a collage of old Valentine's Day cards on the mailbox and paint decoupage onto the collage to keep the elements from coming off.
Going-Away Party
-
Send a loved one away in style with a going-away party and a mailbox centerpiece. Write the guest of honor's new address or the name of the state or country he is moving to on the side of a mailbox. Make a bow out of the colors used in other party decor to attach to the mailbox for a festive look.

Wedding Reception
-
Create a mailbox in wedding colors to use as a centerpiece and a card receptacle at a reception. Paint the mailbox white and add sparkle to the white paint. Use wire or hot glue to attach silk flowers, ribbon and greenery to the centerpiece. Or cover the mailbox in a decorative wallpaper or scrapbook paper and write the bridal couple's last name of the side of the mailbox in a decorative print.
Other Ideas
-
Buy miniature sized mailboxes at a craft store to use as a favor box and centerpiece at a child's birthday party. Decorate the boxes with scrapbook paper, craft foam shapes or paint, and fill the boxes with candy and small toys. Then arrange the mailboxes at the center of the table to serve as a centerpiece. You can also make your own mailboxes by removing the lid of a round oatmeal container, decorating the exterior and replacing the lid. Write "Mail" on the side and use it as a centerpiece. Or reseal a cereal box, cut a slit on the side for mail to slip through and paint it white. Write "Mail" on the side with paint and use it as a card receptacle and centerpiece at a birthday party.
