There are no educational requirements to work as a real estate broker assistant, however your experience or education in business or office management will help in your job as a broker assistant. You may choose to take a real estate course offered at your local technical or trade school to familiarize yourself with the terminology, forms and tools of the real estate world. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the average annual salary for an executive assistant is $45,000.

Your job duties may include graphic art design for advertising, maintain extensive records for the broker and research or obtain information from a variety of sources. Clerical skills, such as typing, filing and telephone skills, are required for much of the work. As a real estate broker assistant, you must also be familiar with the computer software used by your office and the local Board of Realtors. If you have your real estate license, the broker may require other duties, such as answering client questions or holding open houses. The broker may include bonuses or other compensation for the added responsibility.

For instance, a large firm located in New York may offer an annual salary of $55,000, while a small firm in Alabama may offer an annual salary as low as $28,000. The duties may not vary much from location to location but the workload is generally larger in the larger areas. In 2008, the top 10 percent of broker assistants were earning about $62,000 annually.

You have the option to work as a virtual real estate broker assistant, performing your job duties from home. There are organizations, such as the International Virtual Assistants Association, which allow you to register, test and receive certification as a virtual real estate assistant, a certified virtual assistant or an ethics-checked virtual assistant. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, virtual assistants who work as independent contractors are paid an average of $25 to $100 per hour for their time on the job.
