Canon's Laser Class 710 is a stand-alone fax machine and printer.

The Canon Laser Class 710 is an office facsimile system that was introduced in November, 2002. The Laser Class 710 is a multifunctional office fax workstation that offers flexibility and productivity. This is a 19 page per minute laser printer with 1200-dpi resolution that features Canon's Super G3 Technology. The 710 is also a 35 scan-per-minute scanner with a 70-sheet document feeder. Replacing the fuser means replacing what is known as the toner cartridge in laser printers.

  1. Parts

    • The Canon 710 fuser section has two parts: the fuser (fixing) assembly tube and a sleeve. The tube fits within the sleeve, which itself is often greased to lubricate the film's function. The fuser assembly is replaced when it has produced more than 50,000 copies or if it's defective.

    Error Codes

    • It's a good practice to verify fuser replacement before undertaking it. You have to turn on error management to display error codes on the Laser Class 710 -- otherwise it displays only "Check Printer." The various error codes are: ## 322 - Fuser not heating (usually bad fuser module), ## 323 - Laser beam detect error, ## 324 - Laser scanner motor rotation incorrect, ## 325 - Fan motor inoperable and ## 330 - Power supply (replace/repair).

    Problem Areas

    • Reader issues are an input issue; output issues are a printer issue. A specific LED pattern of top icon lit, middle icon unlit, bottom icon lit, shown while pressing the front panel button, indicates a fuser error. Measuring the resistance between pins one and two of connector J102 should read 30 +/- 10 ohms.

    Test the Fuser

    • Remove the fuser assembly from the Canon Laser Class 710 and turn it over a few times. Reinsert it into the copier and see if the error message clears. This is the standard procedure to test for empty toner cartridges generally before you replace them.
