Yogurt Cup Crafts
Many homes go through a lot of yogurt cups each week. Some recycling centers do not accept the type of plastic yogurt cups are made from. Instead of putting countless yogurt cups in the landfill, reuse them for crafts that can be done either by a child or an adult.

Yogurt Cup Wind Socks

Cut out the bottom of a yogurt cup. Cut at least six varying lengths of colorful ribbon and staple or tape them to the inside of the bottom edge of the yogurt container. Punch four evenly-spaced holes around the top of the yogurt container and thread 12-inch pieces of yarn through them. Tie the pieces of yarn together above the yogurt cup. Hang the yarn from a nail or hook outside.
Yogurt Cup Penguin
-
Remove the label from the yogurt cup. Place the cup on a piece of newspaper outside and spray paint it black. Allow it to dry and apply a second coat of spray paint, if you can still see the cup through the first coat. Use white paint to paint the body section of the penguin. Apply a second coat if necessary. Draw beak and feet shapes on yellow craft foam and cut them out. Draw wing shapes on black craft foam and cut them out. Use a hot glue gun to apply the beak, feet and wings to the appropriate parts of the penguin. Use a black permanent marker to draw eyes. You can use the same technique to create nearly any animal out of a yogurt container.

Yogurt Cup Pin Cushion
-
Measure the circumference of the top of the yogurt cup. Draw a circle 3 inches larger than your measurement on a piece of fabric. Cut out the circle and sew around the edges, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Leave 1 inch unsewn. Pull gently on the thread when you finish sewing, to gather the edges, and tie a knot. Stuff the cushion with batting and sew the last inch shut. Use a hot glue gun to apply glue to the inside of the cup, and push the cushion into the cup. Decorate the outside of the cup with matching fabric, stickers, markers or paint.
Yogurt Cup Shakers
-
Fill yogurt cups halfway with beans, rice or sand. Measure the rim of the yogurt cup and cut a piece of cardboard the same size. Hot glue the cardboard to the rim of the yogurt cup. Hot glue a paint stirring stick to the top of the cardboard. These make good musical instruments for young children to learn about rhythm. Do not leave the children unsupervised with the shakers.
