Downloading
-
To download the Yahoo Companion toolbar, you must be using Microsoft Windows and have Internet Explorer 4 or later or Mozilla Firefox installed on your computer. You can download the toolbar by visiting the Yahoo Companion Web page. If you live in Canada, you can customize the toolbar to offer Canadian content after you have downloaded it. You do not need to have an existing Yahoo account to download and use the toolbar.
Overview
-
While you don't need a Yahoo account to use the toolbar, having an account will allow you to fully customize the toolbar according to your preferences. You can customize the toolbar to categorize and sort links and bookmarks, for example. You can also set the toolbar to feature news headlines about your favorite topics and provide a link to your email account. The toolbar will also keep track of your recent Web searches to make browsing easier.

Protection
-
The Yahoo Companion also has features that will protect you online. The toolbar's pop-up blocker prevents pop-up ads and allows you to view the sites on which the pop-up ads appeared. When you click the toolbar's "Anti-Spy" button, the toolbar will search your computer for spyware and other malicious content. The Yahoo Companion toolbar can alert you when you visit a website that tries to change your Web settings.
Data Collection
-
When you agree to the terms of service for the Yahoo Companion toolbar, you are agreeing to allow Yahoo to collect data about your Internet usage, such as websites visited, time to load pages and how you were referred to different sites. This data is anonymous and Yahoo collects it to improve its services. If you do not wish to have Yahoo collect this data, you can turn off the feature.
