Make your own craft to show your love of teddy bears.

Following a political cartoon depicting President Theodore Roosevelt showing compassion to a trapped and injured old bear, stuffed bears gained the moniker "teddy" bears. Create different teddy bear crafts with your children, or on your own, to represent the classic stuffed bears.

  1. Pom Pom Teddy Bear

    • Use craft pom poms to create a small teddy bear for decoration. Hot glue a 1-inch pom pom to a 2-inch pom pom to create the bear’s head and body. Attach four 1/4-inch pom poms to the front of the 2-inch pom pom to make the arms and legs. Glue two more 1/4-inch pom poms to the top of the 1-inch one for the ears and one to the front of the 1-inch pom pom for the nose. Then glue two googly eyes above the nose. Add additional decorations as desired, such as a ribbon around the neck. Place the finished teddy bear on a desk or glue a magnet on the back and hang it on the refrigerator.

    Applesauce Ornament

    • Create a Christmas teddy bear ornament using cinnamon and applesauce. Mix together one part applesauce and two parts cinnamon, stirring until a dough forms. Roll dough out to a 1/4-inch thickness and cut it into a teddy bear shape. Either use a cookie cutter or freehand cut it out with a knife. Poke a hole in the top of the teddy bear's head with a straw to create a place to hang the ornament. Leave the ornament to dry for 24 to 48 hours. Tie a ribbon through the hole in the top and decorate the bear, as desired, using acrylic paint.

    Toilet Paper Roll Bear

    • Instead of the traditional brown or black bear, create a panda bear using a toilet paper roll. Paint the roll white using acrylic paint. Then paint a black line around the center of the roll. Make a head and arms using black construction paper. Cut the shape of the head, arms and legs out and glue them to the roll. Add a face using acrylic paint. Once all paint and glue is dry, place the bear on a desk as a decoration.

    Paper Plate Bear

    • A paper plate has the right shape to create an easy teddy bear head. Paint the plate brown using acrylic paint. Create ears by cutting them out of construction paper and attaching them to the back of the plate with glue or staples. Paint a face on the plate to finish it. Hang the completed face on a refrigerator as a decoration.
