The Importance of Being Prepared for Your Senior Year of School
The senior year of high school has acquired something of a reputation for being a relaxing time when students can take it easy before they head to college. It’s a mistake to see the year as such though, because although you’ll have taken the important exams in junior year, there’s still plenty to do in senior year. Being ready to work hard during your final year of high school will set you up for college.

Avoid Grade Drops
-
You might have performed well across your junior year of high school and got the exam results you wanted, but that doesn’t mean you can slouch during senior year. Entering senior year with intent to do only the basic amount of work and with a disregard for keeping up your good performance from junior year is asking for disaster. Colleges are interested in how you perform academically during senior as well as junior year. If your grades begin to slip, they can require you to explain this, placing your college hopes in jeopardy. So it’s best to prepare for the subjects you’ll be taking and go into senior year ready for continued academic success.
Organization for Balance
-
You’re likely to have a full schedule during senior year. You’ll have academic work to do, as well as extracurricular activities such as sports, family commitments and preparation for college. To complete all of these things successfully, you’ll need to be organized to juggle your obligations without falling behind anywhere. So start this organization before senior year begins. Get the books you’ll need for classes ready, find out when commitments take place and make a calendar and decide on any big social events you plan to go to.

Prepare for College
-
At the end of senior year, you might want to head off to college. This process doesn’t happen by itself however, and while there will be time to organize college applications during senior year, you can get organized early on. Find out when applicable deadlines are. If you want to apply for financial aid for instance, ensure you’re aware of when this needs to be done by. Finalize the colleges you’d like to apply for. In many cases, creating a college shortlist involves visiting some institutions. You might be able to do this during the break before senior year.
Enhance College Prospects
-
As well as keeping your grades up, you’ll need to maintain an involved lifestyle as you head into senior year. Taking part in extracurricular activities, volunteering and working in an internship position are all ways to enhance your college application. These activities take time to set up however, so you should use the time before senior year to make a start.
