Homemade Halloween Costumes for Mothers & Daughters
The Halloween season allows for many otherwise modest and reserved people to let loose and use their creative sides. One of the best ways to use your imagination is by planning and creating costumes for your children. If you want to indulge this year and come up with a look that pairs you up with your daughter, choose a recognizable but unique look that you and your daughter both like.
-
Cruella de Vil and Dalmatian
-
Start by gathering up a white hooded sweatshirt, a matching set of white pants and white shoes for your daughter. Glue two ear-shaped black pieces of felt to the sides of the sweatshirt's hood to serve as the dalmatian's ears. Glue a twisted piece of fabric to the backside of the sweatpants to serve as a tail. Use a black fabric marker to dot the clothing. Use black face paint to dot your daughter's face. For the Cruella look, dye the right side of a white wig black. Wear this along with a fur coat and a simple black dress.
Mummy and Daughter
-
Gather up a set of old sheets and rip them into 6-inch wide pieces. Have you and your daughter dress in some olive green skin-tight clothing. When ready to go out for Halloween, use double-stick tape to attach one end of the strip to the clothing underneath, wrapping the strips around the body. Put a shower cap on your heads and tape the end of the cloth to the back of the cap. Wrap the cloth around the face, leaving the eyes and mouth exposed. Tape a pink bow to your daughter's forehead while you wear an apron that spells out "World's Best Mummy."

Dorothy and the Wicked Witch
-
Prepare your daughter to look like Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz" by dressing her up in a white collared shirt and a blue checkered dress. Braid two pigtails, one on each side of her hair, using a brown wig if necessary. Dress yourself up as the Wicked Witch by donning a black dress and black witch's hat. Paint your face green and carry a broom with you. If you have a small dog, have Dorothy lead it on a leash for the night.
Laverne and Shirley
-
Introduce your daughter to the hit TV show from the 1970s and '80s by dressing up as the comedic duo. Cut out the cursive "L" shape out of felt. Pin this to the left-hand corner of a wool button-up sweater. Pick out another, similar sweater for Shirley. Gather two poodle skirts or capri shorts and two short-styled wigs -- one brown and one light brown. Tease the wigs from the crown and put them on. Shirley can wear an ascot around her neck and Laverne wears the "L" sweater.
