Kenmore 23022101 Will Not Change Cycles
The Kenmore Elite 23022101 is an automatic washing machine with a variety of wash and spin speeds for different items and load sizes. The washer uses a rotary knob for cycle selection that includes permanent press, ultra clean, prewash and soak, but if the machine does not change cycles as expected, troubleshooting methods are needed. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Normal Pauses
-
The Kenmore washing machine pauses between cycles as the washer transitions into the next phase of the cycle. These pauses are normal and do not indicate a problem with the cycle progression. Simply wait a few minutes to verify that the cycle resumes as expected.
Cycle Interruption
-
Any time the current washing machine cycle is interrupted improperly, the cycle will not be able to change to the next stage. If you wish to stop the wash cycle to add another item to the basket, for instance, push the control knob in and open the washer lid. Once the object has been added, shut the lid and pull the control knob out. If the knob is not pulled back out, the washer will remain stopped and will not progress. Turn the control knob slightly to the right if the machine does not resume working once the knob has been pulled out.

Washer Lid
-
The Kenmore washing machine is designed to work only when the lid is closed. While the washer will fill with water regardless of whether the lid is up or down, the machine will not progress past the fill cycle and move into the agitating cycle with the lid open. Simply close the washer lid after making the cycle selection and then pull out the control knob to begin the wash cycle.
Overloaded
-
When the washing machine is overloaded, the basket may get forced off balance and the machine will stop working. Resolve this issue by opening the lid and redistributing items inside, then pull the basket gently back to the center. Take some pieces out if necessary to help maintain a more balanced wash load and remember that medium sized loads work best.
Water Supply
-
Another reason the washer may stop working is if the water supply is compromised. Take a look at the hot and cold water faucets and make sure each faucet is turned on and connected to the correct water hose. Each hose should be straight and clear of possible obstructions as well, so disconnect the hoses and clean out both the hose and the water inlet screens for the best water flow to the machine.
